St James' Catholic Primary School'Where we belong, believe and achieve'.
Year 2 went on a coach drive around Old and Nea Skelmersdale. We looked at the War memorial that was built 100 years ago and how this used to be the town hall. We also looked at the Railway Tavern which is near the old railway that the local miners would use. We then looked and compared the shops in Sandy Lane before having a little play on the park! We looked at where Knowl Brow was and drove around the different houses, factories and then stopped off at the concourse to look at the different shops and pictures of old Skelmersdale.
Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Event at Anfield
WOW! What an incredible experience. Not only did our girls receive a standing ovation for their singing, amazing feedback on their abilities as canapé waitresses, they also bagged themselves a private tour of the Anfield Stadium! Their singing was out of this world and once again they have done us all proud and I am certain that this is something they will remember forever! It was a pleasure to support Royal Academy of Culinary Arts James Holden at their annual fundraising dinner. We look forward to working with them again in the future!
Ashley Dalton - MP visit
It was a pleasure and privilege to welcome our local MP Ashley Dalton MP into school on Monday morning. She was interviewed by our wonderful pupil parliament and answered some challenging questions. She gave us a fantastic insight into the day to day life of her role. We look forward to seeing her again in the future.
Robyn Spencer - Paediatric Dental Lecturer
This afternoon we had a very special visitor in Year 4.
Robyn Spencer who is an ex pupil at St James’ and now a paediatric dental lecturer at Liverpool University, took time out of her very busy schedule to come and talk to the children about dental hygiene and how to look after your teeth.
The children had some fantastic questions and answers for her and it was so lovely to see them remember lots about our science topic.
The children were respectful and listened really well too.

Lancashire Heritage Society - Great Fire of London
The children enjoyed going back in time to the 2nd September 1666! The story of the Great Fire of London was told through role play using artefacts. A great start to our topic!
Victorian day 2022- Year 2
Year 2 went back in time and dressed up as Victorians for the day. We experienced a Victorian school morning writing with slate and a quill pen and ink. We also saw some of the school punishments such as the cane, the basket and the dunces hat. We then washed clothes using a dolly tub, made dolly pegs, baked some scones and homemade lemonade before enjoying these ourselves! We learnt all about our local area, Skelmersdale, and how much it has changed since the Victorians thanks to our visitor, Shirley, from Skelmersdale Heritage Society. Check out the video to see and listen to all that we got up to!
Year 1 - Lancashire Fire Brigade Visit
The children in Year 1 enjoyed a visit from the Lancashire fire department. We looked at how fire safety has changed since the Great Fire of London - our topic in History 🔥
