Through our excellent partnership with schools in rural West Lancashire, coastal Southport and urban Skelmersdale, we are able to provide students with effective mentorship and real world experience that translates into real success.
"Trainees become skillful teachers through carefully designed and well delivered school placement experiences." Ofsted Feb 2023.
PGCE Course
- The PGCE is accredited by Liverpool Hope University
- Our teacher training programme will be unique in that study towards the PGCE and on-going learning and development in working towards QTS will be fully integrated
How trainees will be assessed for the PGCE
Trainees will complete several PGCE assignments throughout the year, allowing them to critically analyse their practice across key domains of the curriculum that they have been studying. By completing them successfully, they should demonstrate:
- Comprehension of systematic and up to date knowledge from within the education discipline.
- Ability to critique research and the methodologies which underpinned these findings.
- Ability to showcase that they can use techniques associated with scholarship.
- Ability to produce an original application of their knowledge.
- Ability to show how they can use methods of research or enquiry to generate said knowledge
Primary QTS with PGCE
From September 2024: Full time route - We offer a one-year, 5 day a week, full-time course, teaching across the 5-11 age range with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with PGCE upon successful completion.
Throughout the 38 weeks of school-based learning, trainees gain practical teaching experience across two age phases with schools who are part of our ITT partnership. Our one-school training approach also gives you the opportunity to build relationships with teachers, staff, and the wider school community.
Trainees work alongside and are supported by class mentors, who challenge them to become highly effective, fully qualified teachers.
For applicants who are interested in teaching in early years as a reception or nursery teacher or in SEND special schools, we can provide a more tailored experience to enrich your training in these areas - please make this intent clear in your personal statement.
From September 2024: Part time route - We offer a two-year, 3 day a week part-time course, teaching across the 5-11 age range with recommendation for QTS with PGCE upon successful completion.
