British Values

Our Vision and Values

Our vision and values are at the heart of everything we do. They shape our teaching and learning and create a supportive environment where pupils develop into confident, respectful and happy citizens.

Promoting British Values

At St James’ Catholic Primary School, we promote British Values in line with Ofsted guidance. Through our ethos, curriculum and daily practice, we encourage respect, tolerance and understanding, preparing pupils for life in modern Britain. In assembly each week, we learn about current affairs and directly link these to both British Values and our gospel values. British values are also intertwined throughout our History and English curriculum so that they become fully embedded, understood and lived out by all.

🗳️ Democracy

Pupils are given a voice and opportunities to contribute to school life through pupil parliament, pupil interviews, assemblies and questionnaires. They learn how to express opinions respectfully and understand that their views matter.

⚖️ The Rule of Law

We teach pupils the importance of rules and laws both in school and in wider society. Through our high expectations and clear rules, children are given the opportunity to succeed. They learn why rules are needed, the responsibilities they bring, and the consequences of their actions, preparing them to be law-abiding citizens.

🕊️ Individual Liberty

Pupils are encouraged to make safe and responsible choices within a supportive environment. Through lessons in PSHEE and E-Safety, they develop confidence, independence and an understanding of their rights and freedoms.

🤝 Mutual Respect

Respect is a key part of our school ethos. Pupils learn to treat others with kindness and consideration through our behaviour expectations, classroom discussions and PSHE curriculum.

🌍 Acceptance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

We promote understanding and appreciation of different cultures and religions through RE, PSHEE, assemblies, trips, visitors and through our well-planned and sequenced curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to value diversity and challenge prejudice.
