Welcome to the Year 5 class page. Here you will find essential information about your child’s learning journey, key routines, and important dates throughout the year.

Our curriculum is carefully designed to be engaging, challenging, and tailored to meet the needs of all learners. It builds on prior knowledge while preparing children for the next stages of their education and beyond. Wherever possible, we enhance learning through trips, visits, residential experiences (found below), and a variety of exciting resources. We also use metacognitive strategies to help children understand how they learn best, enabling them to retain and apply their knowledge effectively. We will regularly share updates and celebrate learning through Class Dojo, the school’s Facebook page, and our dedicated curriculum page on this website.

Access to our Bespoke curriculum can be found by following the link below:

Alongside academic achievement, we place a strong emphasis on personal development. We encourage children to grow in confidence, resilience, and independence. Our teaching also promotes Gospel and British values, helping pupils become respectful, responsible, and thoughtful members of society. These qualities are key in preparing them not only for school, but for life beyond it.

Throughout the year, we provide a wide range of extra-curricular activities to support and inspire children’s individual interests and talents. Information about these will be shared via letters or on Class Dojo.

We are committed to supporting every child’s wellbeing. Our Pastoral Lead, Mrs Allan, offers high-quality support for a range of needs, including friendship issues, emotional wellbeing, and bereavement. When children feel safe, supported, and heard, they are able to thrive.

Our children are at the centre of everything we do, and we pride ourselves on our open-door approach. Strong partnerships with parents and carers are vital, so please feel free to speak to us at the end of the day or contact us via Class Dojo if you have any questions.

We hold three parents’ evenings each year, along with mid-year and end-of-year reports. There will also be opportunities to see your child’s learning in action during their annual spotlight assembly. In addition, you will be invited to various events throughout the year, such as the Christmas Carol Concert, Easter Prayer Trail, and Summer Fair.

PE lessons currently take place on Mondays for Swimming at Nye Bevan and Fridays (with West Lancashire Sports Partnership). Spelling tests are held every Friday, and children may change their reading books daily as needed.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.
