Science Week 2026
During Science Week, our school was buzzing with curiosity as pupils explored the theme of sustainability through hands-on investigations and creative problem-solving. Throughout the week, children across the school practised and demonstrated all of the working scientifically skills outlined in the UK National Curriculum for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, including asking questions, planning and carrying out investigations, observing closely, gathering and recording data, and drawing thoughtful conclusions. Each year group tackled a unique challenge linked to the theme. Year 1 became nature engineers by building bird nests using only fallen natural materials, while Year 2 explored recycling by creating their own paper from scrap pieces. Year 3 investigated the classic question of why toast so often lands butter-side down and discovered results that matched those reported in a university study. Year 4 designed and tested different boat shapes to find the most efficient designs, and Year 5 researched materials that could be used to build a rover capable of exploring the harsh conditions on Mars. Meanwhile, Year 6 examined human impact on food webs, considering how environmental changes can affect entire ecosystems. It was an inspiring week of exploration, creativity and scientific thinking that encouraged pupils to question, investigate and consider how science can help us care for our world.
