Our First International Adventure: Year 5 & 6 Visit Barcelona

This year marked an exciting milestone for our school as pupils in Years 5 and 6 embarked on our very first foreign residential visit to the beautiful city of Barcelona. Over three unforgettable days, the children explored one of Europe’s most vibrant cultural destinations, gaining independence, confidence and lifelong memories along the way.

For several pupils, the adventure began with a particularly special moment — their very first flight. Travelling together as a group, the children showed fantastic enthusiasm and maturity as they navigated the airport and journeyed to Spain.

Once in Barcelona, the pupils enjoyed an action-packed itinerary filled with world-famous landmarks and unique experiences. A major highlight was visiting the incredible Sagrada Família, especially during the historic week when the famous basilica was finally completed after more than 200 years of construction. Standing outside this extraordinary building was a truly memorable experience for everyone.

The children also explored the stunning Barcelona Cathedral, wandered through the colourful mosaics and architecture of Parc Güell, and enjoyed spectacular views of the city during a thrilling cable car journey. Another favourite visit was Poble Espanyol, where pupils discovered traditional Spanish culture, crafts and architecture.

Beyond the famous sights, the trip also gave pupils the chance to experience everyday life in a new city. They travelled confidently using Barcelona’s metro and bus systems, enjoyed meals together in local restaurants, visited parks, and even had time for a little shopping.

Throughout the trip, the children represented the school wonderfully. Their behaviour was exceptional at all times, and they showed kindness, curiosity and responsibility wherever they went. Staff were incredibly proud of how well they supported one another and embraced every opportunity.

Our first international trip was a tremendous success and a fantastic experience for both pupils and staff. Barcelona will always hold a special place in our school’s history as the destination of our very first overseas adventure.
