Year 2

Year 2 2025/2026

Who's who in Year 2

Mrs Gibbons                          Mrs Thaw                            Miss Hughes

Welcome to Year 2’s class page. Here you will find key information about your child’s learning and experiences throughout the year as well as important routines and dates.

We have a full, challenging and bespoke curriculum that is carefully adapted to engage and support all learners. Our curriculum builds on prior knowledge while preparing children for their future years in school and beyond. Wherever possible, we enrich learning through visits, trips, residentials and exciting resources. We use a range of metacognition techniques to help children understand how they learn best, ensuring they know more and remember more.

Alongside academic progress, we are equally focused on personal development. We encourage our pupils to build confidence, resilience and independence. We also actively instil our Gospel values alongside British values, supporting children in becoming thoughtful, responsible and respectful members of society. By nurturing these qualities, we help prepare them not only for the next stage of their education, but for life beyond the classroom.

Across the year, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities to inspire and nurture children’s individual interests and talents. Letters will be sent home about these or information will be put on Class Dojo.

Additionally, children have access to high-quality pastoral support as and when needed. Mrs Allan, our Pastoral Lead, is highly trained and able to support your child with a wide range of needs, including friendship difficulties, emotional wellbeing and bereavement. When children feel safe and listened to they thrive.

We will regularly share highlights of our learning on Class Dojo, the school’s Facebook page and our bespoke curriculum page on this website.

Our children are at the heart of everything we do, and we are proud of our open-door policy. We believe that strong relationships with parents and carers are key to supporting progress and achievement. Therefore, if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to speak to one of us at the end of the day or reach out via Class Dojo.

We hold three parents’ evenings across the year and provide a mid-year and end-of-year report. There will also be an opportunity for you to watch your children share their learning during their annual spotlight assembly. In addition, you will be invited to several events throughout the year, including the Christmas Carol Concert, the Easter Prayer Trail and the Summer Fair.

Our current PE days are Tuesdays (with West Lancashire Sports Partnership) and Thursday and our spelling quiz takes place every Thursday. Reading books are monitored daily and changed on a Monday and Thursday.

We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!
